TWILIGHT SAGA: New Moon - Our Collective Expectations

The Economy maybe sick, wars maybe raging all over the planet, someone maybe infected by the N1H1 virus, but all these "negatives" cannot outshine or dampen Twilight fans as they impatiently wait for the next sequel in the Twilight Saga - New Moon.

The Twilight Saga is here to stay, whether you like it or not. So, what do we know so far and what can we expect in the near future? tMF takes another serious look at Stephenie Meyer's vision of vampires and warewolves, of love and romance and desire, of revenge and danger and death, of continuity and of nothingness...

New cast, new director, new media blitz...

New Moon: In Search for the 'Perfect' Lover? If that is not a valid query, then let me know what is....

In the meantime, let's take a look at what the movie is all about:

At Bella's 18th birthday party at the Cullens' house, she gets a paper cut, and Jasper attempts to attack her. The Cullens decide it would be better for Bella's safety if they left, so they get away from Forks, leaving Bella heartbroken. She finds solace in family friend Jacob Black, who incidentally is a werewolf. But before Edward left, he made Bella promise she wouldn't do anything reckless or stupid but, as he'd already broken his promise to 'be there for as long as she wanted him', she decides to break her promise. She goes cliff-diving, which makes Edward think she has killed herself, although it was purely for recreational purposes. So Edward travels to Italy, to provoke the Volturi so they will kill him. Alice finds Bella, and they begin a race to the Italian city of Volterra to stop him.

Let's speculate shall we?

Can warewolves create enough 'extravaganza' to make this another box office attraction? Can the Volturi entice (and enchant) the audience with their unique take of the vampiric world? Chris Weitz needs to gather all his skills to keep Twilight fans glued on the big screen when the series' biggest attraction (Robert Pattinson) has less screen time than its second lead (Taylor Lautner).

Will there be chemistry between Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner? As they test the waters and dive into the deep (which is too dangerous for their own good), can they handle it?

Will the new cast create enough 'magic and mystery' to attract the same huge audience? I'm particularly interested in how Jamie Campbell Bower portray his role. I've seen how enigmatic this young British actor is in Tim Burton's Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street!

Let's see what they have to say about Campbell Bower:

Mr. Bower was wearing faded jeans, a leather jacket and lots of jewelry. Rings adorned the fingers showing through his gray fingerless gloves (with black nail polish on a couple of the nails) and he had on multiple necklaces (including a silver skull and bones, which he said was his ode to Mr. Depp's Pirates of the Caribbean) that he played with throughout the meal. His blond hair is long and tousled-part glam rocker, part someone who's recently spent a lot of time with Tim Burton-and surrounds a beautiful, almost too pretty face with sparkling kitten-shaped eyes (boasting just a hint of eyeliner) and pillowy lips. But his personality is all giddy schoolboy and sweetness, full of wild hand gestures and facial expressions. He's at that delicate moment in his career where he's completed a big (big) movie without any of the rewards or baggage that come with stardom. So, he's able to speak rather freely about things, from his lack of money ("People don't get it, they think I'm rich. I'm not! I have no money") to Paramount helping him fly out his girlfriend, Zoe, who was waiting upstairs in the hotel room ("The first time I came here I was so lonely").

Mr. Bower was raised in London, and attended Bedales, a boarding school in the English countryside, where he first began taking singing lessons when he was 8 years old (he left before his last semester to work on the movie). His first role was playing the French Mouse in a production of Alice in Wonderland. "I think I always sort of had the calling," he said, biting enthusiastically into a bagel with smoked salmon and cream cheese. He thought for a moment, then added quickly, "That sounds so fucking generic and cheesy, but it's true! I always had the idea that I wanted to perform. I love being the center of attention-and I always love talking about myself." Aside from local theater and the National Youth Music Theater, he didn't have a lot on his résumé when he talked to a friend, the West End actress Laura Michelle Kelly (who was also cast in Sweeney Todd) about whether he should attend drama school after graduation. She put him in touch with her agent, who in turn told him about the auditions for Sweeney Todd. He went in and sang and read for Tim Burton. Four days later he got the call. "I think I wee'd myself," Mr. Bower said. "I was out shopping at the time and I got this call on my mobile. I was just like"-his voice raised a couple of octaves-"OH MY GOD! Honestly, I was like a little girl running around this shop like oh-my-god-oh-my-god-oh-my-god." [ read more ]

Let's not forget Campbell Bower is also rumoured to be part of the cast of the latest Harry Potter films. Which makes him quite an interesting and intriguing personality, to say the least...

Oh and yes, the talented Michael Sheen is playing an important role. Having seen how awesome he is in Frost/Nixon and in The Queen and to a certain extent in Blood Diamond, I expect nothing less than 'stellar' from Mr. Sheen.
